History of Crêpanini

Crepanini is a delicious, casual, and original creperie in the heart of Beijing. This concept of easy and healthy food to go was established by two passionate Bretons, Jean-Baptiste Audran and Nicolas Raoul. In June 2008, Crepanini officially opened its shutters, serving both sweet and savory crepes, waffles, paninis, ice cream, and drinks. Today, thanks to our loyal customers and curious pedestrians, Crepanini is one of the most popular creperies in Beijing’s Sanlitun district.

Our diverse menu has something to satisfy any craving. The first thing you notice when you step inside is the rich aroma of delicate mixes, robust ingredients, and fresh fruit. It’s the perfect environment to catch-up with friends, meet colleagues and business associates, and recharge with a healthy snack or meal.

Crepes are served all day as breakfast, snack, main course or dessert and are consumed in the cafés or as take away. Your food is cooked fresh in front of you, quickly prepared in a pristine environment.


History of the French crepe and waffle

Crepes originated from Brittany in west of France in the Middle Ages as a replacement for bread when wheat was in short supply. The delicate, round cakes of eggs, flour, milk and butter are traditionally cooked on a hot griddle and spread thin using a smooth wooden rake. They are then filled with sweet or savory ingredients and served as a meal or snack at any time of the day.

The crispy exterior yet soft fluffy centre of a freshly cooked waffle originates from the Middle Ages when waffle irons of two metal plates featured designs of landscapes and coat-of-arms. Waffles are best known as a breakfast or sweet treat and traditionally served with sweet syrups, fruit or cream and ice-cream.
